SPP Abstract

The Spectra Post Processor is a graphic equalizer-like
device which aids Map adjustment of Cochlear Implants.
In a clinician’s office, the adjustment of Cochlear Implant EEPROM settings
is a tedious and non-intuitive procedure. The SPP provides a fast and
ergonomic way to make the necessary adjustments while providing the patient
with instant feedback on the effect of the changes.

This 3-processor system is based on 17C44, 17C42 and 16C74 PICs.
It intercepts, decodes and modifies the RF data stream from a body-worn
Implant Speech Processor. It then re-constructs a modified RF data stream
which is applied to the implanted portion of the CI.

The SPP was developed in an attempt to improve the author’s own hearing, but there
are a few hundred CI clinicians who could use such a device.
